MAKE 2020 THE YEAR YOU GET MORE OF WHAT YOU WANT... HERE'S HOW

Growing up, my father felt strongly about teaching my three brothers and me the value of money. Beginning in elementary school, we were given a weekly allowance. In order to receive the allowance, you had to ask for it at the start of the school year.

This is one of the only times in my life that I recall intentionally procrastinating. The night before school began, I would begrudgingly enlist the help of my older brothers to coach me on what to say. I had to approach my dad (a 6’ 4”, broad, intimidating figure) and ask if I could please negotiate my allowance. This began when I was about eight years old. I never got used to it and never felt successful in getting what I wanted.

This experience…repeated annually, led me to believe that I was a bad negotiator. I carried this limiting belief with me for many years.

Negotiations

What about you….

Are you comfortable asking for what you want?

Are you able to enter into a dialogue with a counterpart without it becoming adversarial?

Your life is full of negotiations. From asking for a promotion or raise, agreeing on a curfew with a teen, or deciding on a restaurant for dinner, you are constantly navigating how to get more of what you want.

Tracy Fink, of The Tortoise Institute, and I have studied negotiations, leadership and how to understand and leverage emotions with some of the world’s leading experts. We have built a program that is engaging, relevant, and extremely impactful. Exercises, case studies, and videos make it highly interactive and you will have the opportunity to test the skills you learn in a safe environment.

We are offering this program in New York City on Tuesday, February 4th at 450 Lexington Avenue.
